Elizabeth Salama Jeremiah

Head of Women Empowerment Department

Meet Elizabeth Salama Jeremiah, a lady passionate about women in the society. Her journey has been guided by her profound passion for working with and empowering vulnerable women, particularly in the beautiful community of Uvira, in the Eastern part of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Born in Munene in DRC, raised in Nairobi Kenya and Kampala Uganda, and had an opportunity to attend school to the university level where she graduated with a Degree in community Development and also, she is pursuing her Masters in Social work and Social Services from Uganda Christian University in Uganda. Elizabeth was able to know and understand how a woman in the community is an important tool to development. In 2011, when she visited DRC (Uvira) after being away for long due to the war, she was not impressed by the life that many women were living in the community.

Most of the women in Uvira are very vulnerable, they go through marginalization. Being have come from this community whereby women are marginalized, not educated, have low self esteem not empowered, and seen not important in the society, having the opportunity to go to school and be empowered, get skills and understands the rights of women, she felt the urge to work and support women in DRC.
